several years ago i discovered a clump of snow drops blooming on the property, so every spring since then i have looked for them, i knew the general area...however until this past Friday they eluded me....i often wonder how these little beauties arrived in this spot.... out in the wild... they are between the road & the rivers edge in the thickets of wild bushes & grasses.... what a special find in the wilds.... these made my day
I started the morning early on the property, headed out between 7 & 7:30 AM. As i entered the front end of the property the male eagle had just caught something in the river.... when i look at close ups from the front end of the property it appears to be a duck, as i can see the yellow beak, however when he arrives at the back end & flies over me it appears to be a muskrat.... so unsure if he ate the duck & then caught the muskrat & brought that to the female in the nest.... there were several magpies chasing him at the front end, & it took me awhile to get to the back where the nest is, so it is possible he had two catches this morning. When he arrived at the nest with the meal, they made quite a bit of noise in their morning greeting!!! (Please enjoy the slide show, both above & below... thanks i found myself a nice rock to sit on by the rivers edge... kinda chilly & yet the morning sun offered some welcome warmth! The eagle nest tree is to the left, morning sun to the right... this was my 180 degree view this morning! When one goes into nature.. one never knows what to expect.... i had come out with the hopes of seeing some young raccoon's we'd seen the night before... did not spot them, however the eagle activity was very high!! this is the 2nd year i have been allowed to observe them mating.... this is the first year i had my camera with me And so begins the 2016-2017 season of the pair of nesting Bald Eagles on the property.... last year was the 1st season the had 3 hatchlings that grew up & flew the nest... it will be interesting what takes place this year. I am honored to be able to observe them the way I am.Thanks for joining me... hope you'll follow thru the season. |
